Admittedly, we are a tiny start-up and few people outside of our immediate family and friends have even heard of Zapproved. Even so, we have been impressed with the variety of creative pronunciations we have encountered. Since it’s still early days, I thought I’d take a moment to review how to pronounce our name.
The idea is that it sounds like a contraction of “It’s approved!” which captures that exciting moment when a project gets green lighted. Plus, the first few letters make the word “zap” that implies something fast and electronic. A secondary meaning, but one that is also descriptive.
Catchy? Descriptive? Double entendre? Available URL? Yahtzee!
Well, not so fast. We’re committed to Zapproved and are sure that it will be hit, but we’ve still got some educating to do. We’ve heard both “zee’ uh prüvd” and “zap’ prüvd” a number of times already. We can understand the thinking that have led folks to those pronunciations, they actually are logical conclusions.
So, for the record, let us state now that the correct pronunciation is “zuh ‘prüvd.”
Thank you for your understanding.
